#61 LET THE RIVER FLOW - Darrell Evans

One thing I didn't count on when I started this blog was people contacting me via the 'Send Me A Message' thingy over there on the right side. I just figured that's something that every blog would have, but that no one would ever use it. But it turns out, I was wrong.

I've gotten plenty of messages in my inbox from those reading my little blog here. Most of them are of the "Nice blog" or "I love that song" variety, but I've also been surprised at the number of people who are looking for spiritual advice. And of course a lot of dudes ask me for my secrets with women, and there's thousands of emails a week asking questions about cats. "Hey, why does my cat drop his toys in the water bowl?" Answer: Don't know, they're cats.

But lately I've been getting a ton of questions about the election. People want to know why Donald Trump is so mean, or why Bernie is doing so well, or why Hillary isn't in jail with all the other criminals. Anyway, rather than answering all the emails individually, I thought I'd take a moment to give you and in-depth look at the top candidate from each party. So, without further ado, I give you ANDY'S ELECTION GUIDE 2016:

Donald Trump (R)
PROS: Is not Hillary Clinton
CONS: Is Donald Trump

Hillary Clinton (D)
PROS: Is not Donald Trump
CONS: Is Hillary Clinton

So, come this November, let's everyone get out there and vote! Or don't vote, whatever. Looks like we're all doomed anyway.(1)

(1) One note to all those Christians here who may think I'm being too flippant about an important election. I will give you one serious Bible centered truth: Socialism is NOT Christianity. Please don't fall for that crap. And if you're at a church that teaches this, find a better church. (end rant)

The only candidate who will "Make all your dreams come true"

If this is your first time here, you may have noticed that sometimes it takes me awhile to actually get to the song. Normally, that's just me being me. But this time, it's a case of me not having a whole lot to say about this week's artist, Darrell Evans. I actually DID have a lot of interesting things to say about him ('interesting' being subjective), but I used them all up the last time Mr. Evans made the list, here: #82 Trading My Sorrows.

The song Let The River Flow definitively has sort of a pre 'cool worship' feel to it. Evans' version of the song came out in 1997, just a few years before Sonicflood, Passion, Chris Tomlin, etc really juiced up the worship scene. But even though the song precedes the worship explosion of the 21st century, it's actually a positive rather than a negative.

As soon as the song starts and gets rolling, you can just picture older fellas like me sitting on my porch and yelling at kids to get off my lawn and saying about this song, "Now THIS was when worship was good". I mean, 1997 wasn't exactly the dark ages, but there is a little something about the really slick production of today's worship music that is muted in a song like Let The River Flow.

Also, if they ever did one of those Time Warner infomercials on worship music, and at the end they promised to throw in an extra 12 song CD called 'The Birth of Modern Worship', I think this song would be on that CD. Even though Let The River Flow has sort of fallen out of the regular rotation at many churches, back when I started in 1999 it was one of the standard worship songs of the day.

So I guess what I'm saying is that Let The River Flow is a great song, and an all time classic. They made a nice video with all the lyrics, so give it a listen:
